Internet Anonymity

Blizzard Entertainment's recent decision to replace people's forum names with their actual names has their forums (and the internet) exploding in an uproar.

What's the big deal?

Those favoring their anonymity are using things like 'loss of privacy' or 'internet security' or stalkers or whatever as their ammo. The loss of privacy seems logical enough: 'my actual name is out there! People can add me on facebook! They could find where I live!'. Internet security plays along the same lines of how people can trace all their info with their actual names. Stalkers...again the same thing really.

On the flipside, others are praising the move because it'll be a kind of 'leash' so to speak on all the trolls out there. Trolls are people that 'troll' the forums and flame people because they are noobs, amongst other things. By holding people accountable with their names, the aim is that people will be more respectable when they're communicating online.

The whole 'loss of privacy' bit sound interesting except that with the onset of Facebook, all your crap is pretty much online anyways. Or maybe the people would rather complain on the forum rather than change their privacy settings on Facebook?

Personally this doesn't affect me since I only play the game and I don't post on forums. Of course, this doesn't guarantee that trolls would be exterminated with such a play, it's interesting to see what'll develop later on.

In other news...


Yesterday was unproductive, to say the least. Was at the university around 10:30ish? Only managed to read over some (not even all) my notes. Did manage to take around 4 naps though (3 indoors, 1 outdoors). The lack of motivation is disheartening and its repercussions will surely be felt. Ugh. Even right now I've already spent half the day not studying, and I have to head out later so I can't study then either.


Also decided to drop the whole Conservation Biology course to take Soci327 instead: Intro to Criminal Justice just because it sounds kick-ass. Hopefully it is because the GPA needs to stop dropping. Standards and expectations are high...


Did I mention that I started to listen to some English rock band called Oasis? They've got some pretty chill tunes as well as some that are a bit more rock than I'd like. Only uploaded a few of them onto Orange-kun (not to mention the song files are massive), we'll move on from there maybe (when my laptop gets back?).

Right, the headaches are still around. Frequency and intensity are dying down... but I should really sleep more, maybe that'll get my motivation going. Maybe. Meanwhile, the medicine I have to drink is.... delicious. Right.
